Court-Ordered Services
Parental Responsibilities Evaluations
I conduct Parental Responsibilities Evaluations (PRE) that are ordered by the court. The goal is to assist parents, attorneys, and judges in determining what parental responsibilities would be best for your child(ren) given the circumstances of your family. This evaluation is a comprehensive psychological and interpersonal family evaluation. The goal is to provide recommendations describing a constructive situation for maximizing the child’s relationship with each parent. If participating in a PRE with me, plan on multiple individual meetings, home visits, meetings with the children, psychological testing, and providing a good deal of written information. The process takes about 120 days from start to finish, at which point you will receive a detailed report summarizing your family, the findings of the evaluation, the Colorado statutes relevant to the case and recommendations.
Court-ordered therapy
Sometimes the court orders parents and/or children to participate in therapy to address different behaviors or different roadblocks to functioning better. I provide individual therapy to adolescents and adults in these situations. The goal is to improve functioning and address underlying issues that might be causing problems. This is done in a supportive environment.
I do not provide reintegration therapy.
PRE and CFI Coaching
There are two types of “custody evaluations” in Colorado. The most thorough and time intensive is the Parental Responsibilities Evaluation and a briefer version of this is the Child and Family Investigation. Either type requires a good deal of time and emotional energy and it might feel stressful and overwhelming. Given that so much is at stake in these evaluations, parents want to do their best to achieve the best outcome for their children.
I have conducted both types of evaluations and can help you understand the process so you can be better prepared. I am able to answer questions about the process and help you communicate and present your experiences and beliefs in the best manner possible. My role is not to tell you what to say in an evaluation, but to help you say what you feel and want in a clear and comprehensible manner. If necessary, I can also work with you on any personal issues or experiences that get in the way of you being the best parent you can be. I can also help you think about what might be best for your child in various situations.
